Philosophy

To me... Early Childhood is an approach to life as well as my profession. Just like a young child, I choose to live my life with my eyes open in wonder of each passing moment...to see each experience (good or bad) as an opportunity to learn...and to play every chance I can get. This approach is well represented in the educational activities I have created in magazines, books and workshops around the country.

My goal is to support teachers and parents to see the rich educational aspects of playing with children through my writings and keynotes and workshops . . . And to celebrate the child in all of us.

Following is an excerpt from an article on teaching I wrote for Scholastic -

Learning is A Life-Long Process
Excerpted from Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine

"Very early in life children begin exploring the world with their bodies, senses,
and developing skills. They intuitively know how to take the smallest observation, object, or surprise and turn it into a meaningful experience. Best of all, they are curious! Kids want to find out the "who, what, where, when, how, and why" of everything around them.

As teachers and parents, we serve our children well by encouraging their

inquisitive natures, because curiosity is the primary motivating factor for

seeking knowledge. Learning is a process — a series of experiences that lead

to the great "ah-ha!" moments of life. As you well know, these moments don’t

end in childhood. If we approach life with curiosity and awareness we keep

the spirit of childhood alive throughout our lives."
